Dr. Erin Johnson DDS, MS is a native of Grand Rapids Michigan, where she competed as a competitive swimmer while spending her summers teaching swimming lessons. She continued her swimming career during her 4 years at Calvin College, graduating with degrees in biology and biochemistry. During Erin's years training in the pool, she first realized her desire to pursue a career working with children.
Dr. Erin combined her interest in science and medicine with that of working with kids with her decision to become a pediatric dentist. She graduated from The University of Michigan School of Dentistry in 2006, and completed her Master's Degree and residency in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Michigan in 2008. Her graduate research involved sedation, and was published in the Journal of Pediatric Dentistry. She has published articles in Northwest Kids Magazine and Spokane Family Magazine, and was named a "Top Dentist" in the field of Pediatric Dentistry in the Spokane Coeur d' Alene Living magazine in 2012, '13, '14, '15, '16, '17, '18, '19. In 2020, she was appointed to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentisty committee on continuing education.
Dr. Erin became Spokane's first Board Certified female Pediatric Dentist in 2009, and has physician privileges at Sacred Heart Hospital, Valley Hospital and Holy Family Hospital. She is a member of the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the Washington State Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Washington State Dental Association, and the Spokane District Dental Society. Dr. Erin is an American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Fellow, an honor designated for those who have contributed above and beyond in the field of pediatric dentistry and organized dentistry. She has volunteered for Special Olympics Special Smiles, as well as Give Kids A Smile.
Dr. Erin met and married her husband, Spokane native Dr. Bret Johnson, while in dental school in Michigan. They have three children; Charlotte, Lyla, and Will. Dr. Erin and Dr. Bret enjoy spending time with Maizie their Golden Retriever, and Howie their Vizsla. She enjoys running, skiing and spending time at the lake with family.
Dr. Becky Van Gemert Coombs, DDS was raised in Spokane as the second of five children. She attended Cataldo Catholic School, Gonzaga Prep High School and graduated from the University of Washington in 1998. She spent her summers working in an orthodontic office where her tremendously rewarding experiences in patient care ultimately led to her desire to become a pediatric dentist.
Dr. Becky graduated from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in 2002 and worked as a general dentist until 2008. Throughout this time, she particularly enjoyed working with children and decided to further her training by completing a residency in pediatric dentistry through the University of Washington in 2011. Her research focus during residency was tracking children for early access to care and establishing lasting dental homes by the age of one as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Becky served as a part-time clinical faculty member at Eastern Washington University’s School of Dental Hygiene and has physician privileges at Sacred Heart Hospital here in Spokane. Dr. Becky is currently a member of the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the Washington State Dental Association, the Washington State Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and the Spokane District Dental Society.
Dr. Becky loved growing up in the Inland Northwest and knew it was the place she wanted to settle with her family. She met her husband, Cody, while in high school and together they enjoy raising their two children, Sawyer and Cora. They particularly enjoy cheering against each other during Apple Cup, as Dr. Becky is an avid Husky football fan while her husband is a die hard Coug. They cherish their time at the lake with family and look forward every year to traveling and skiing with their adventurous children.
Dr. Yost, eldest of five children, grew up in Spokane and graduated from Point Loma University in San Diego with a degree in Biology. He then went on to receive his doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of California Los Angeles. After completing his residency as chief resident and becoming board certified, Dr. Yost, his wife, and two children have decided to return to the beautiful northwest to connect with their community once again.
"It is my passion to be able to work with children, and ensure that they have positive and fun visits." Denise is originally from the Tri-Cities, and moved to Spokane in 1999 to attend college. She has over 18 years of involvement working with children, including those with special needs, and has been a part of our team since January of 2012. She excels at going the extra mile to make sure her patients have a great experience and are comfortable throughout their appointment. She loves to spend time creating fun activities for her 3 children; Renn, Lennon and Elsie.
"Being able to see a child leave the office with a smile is a great reward." Amber has been an assistant since 2011 and with our team since January 2012. She enjoys working with children and creating a positive experience at the dentist for them. Amber enjoys road trips and Dutch Bros with her husband and two boys, Graham and Cole. Her hobbies include shopping and painting.
"I love seeing our patients smile at the end of their appointment and wanting to come back." Tara joined our team in February 2013, but has been working with children in the dental field since 2008. She and her husband have 2 daughters, with whom they spend as much time as possible. Tara taught both of her daughters how to ski, and her hobbies include skiing, running, riding ATV's, and spending time at the lake with family.
"Creating a comfortable and positive experience for children at the dentist has always been a joy of mine. It is so rewarding to see families leave the office with a bright smile!" Heidi joined our dental team in May 2014 and has been working with children as a dental assistant since 2009. She enjoys visiting her sister in Friday Harbor, playing games, dancing and cheering for the Seahawks! Most of all, she loves spending time with her family and two children, Lincoln and Emma.
Ashley has been working in our office since 2017. She comes to us from Colville and loves to spend her free time with family. If you've been on a camping trip lately, she would love to talk to you about it because this girl loves the great outdoors! She has been a great addition to our team, and she is working hard to earn your child's smile.
Peyton has had several years of working in pediatric dentistry before finding us. Since Peyton joined our team her sense of humor and welcoming smile have become some of the things we love most about her. In another life she might have been a veterinarian; she loves animals and has had hedgehogs, lizards, cats and dogs.
Adrienne taught pre-school for 10 years, then entered the dental field and has been working in pediatrics since 2013. She brings laughter and fun every day to our workplace and always makes sure your children experience the same fun environment that we do. She is a mom to three wonderful kids, and her epic adventures include white water rafting in Banff.
Kym fell in love with Spokane after moving here to attend Eastern Washington University. She has specialized in treating children since 2006, and has been part of the South Hill Pediatric dental team since we opened our doors in 2011. She is an adjunct professor at EWU in the dental hygiene department. She and her husband have two boys who keep her very busy when she's not in the office or the classroom. She enjoys the outdoors, reading and crafting.
Christopher (aka Topher) was born and raised in Tacoma and moved to Spokane in 2004. He has been in the dental industry since 2011. When we asked him what he loves most about working with kids, he replied "I love to see the excitement on the kids' faces when they come running through the door ready for their appointments." In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his wife and 6 children, cycling, watching the Seahawks and Mariners and coaching his son's baseball team.
Amy is originally from the Pacific Northwest and has spent 13 years in San Diego, and 3 years in Okinawa Japan. She loves to travel, and her farthest trip has been to Thailand! She has been in the healthcare industry for 14 years, and has two teenage sons who are busy with football and band. Since joining our team, Amy has helped streamline our front office and has helped us to navigate the complex and changing world of dental insurance.
Michael is our Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). He has been in practice since 1986, and has been treating children exclusively for much of that time. He received his masters degree in Anesthesiology from the Medical College of Pennsylvania and is board certified by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. He has done all types of anesthesia, but most enjoys working with pediatric patients in a private office setting. He and his wife have three sons with whom they love spending their time.

Dr. Becky and Dr. Erin are committed to forging nurturing relationships with the families we serve, and our office truly reflects that." Deborah was our office manager, and has been with South Hill Pediatric Dentistry since we opened our doors. She now helps coordinate patient insurance from her home in Coeur d' Alene. She and her husband have 3 adult children, and enjoy being outdoors, caring for their garden, and cheering for the Zags!
You may remember Amy as she used to greet all our patients as they arrived! Now she is spending time helping manage our practice. Prior to coming to South Hill Pediatric Dentistry, Amy had two years of experience working as a receptionist in the dental field. She loves the outdoors and enjoys several activities like hiking and swimming with her daughter Nora. Amy is also a huge Seahawks fan, so she is busy cheering them on every Sunday starting in the fall!
