Canker Sore (Apthous Ulcer)

Aphthous ulcers, also known as canker sores, are painful, shallow ulcers that occur inside the mouth. They are typically white or yellow with a red border and can vary in size from 1-2 mm to over 1 cm. Flat in nature they can occur on the gingiva, tongue, inner cheeks, or soft palate.

While their exact cause is unknown, several factors can trigger them, including stress, injury to the mouth, acidic foods, and certain medications. They are not contagious and cannot pass from person to person.

Time will heal them, there is no medication that will aid the healing process but you can purchase OTC topical patches/gel that will soothe the area as it heals.

We do not recommend Orajel as properties in it can exacerbate the lesion and cause prolonged healing times.
